On Sunday, May 31st, Capital Campaign chairman Bert Martin announced that seventy-nine pledges totaling commitments of $425,307 were received on the preceeding two Sundays for the Capital Campaign. The announcement concluded the first phase of the Capital Campaign.

Bert passed the campaign baton to Cory Saum-Blystone who will lead the pledge fulfillment phase of the campaign which begins with the First Fruits offering on May 31st.

Dear Church Family and Friends,

In a poem entitled “The Garden,” Frances Livingston tells of one man’s path to new life.  The man “had slaved away his early youth in a pharmacy day and night.”  His work was drudgery year in and year out.  “He was starved for color and light.”  Missing as well were the pleasures and joys of life.  “He had no time for romance.” He closed himself off from the world in his own private tomb.  He was “too stingy to spend emotion.”  His life was filled with dullness and frustration.

God’s Will for Every Child

New Testament Reading—John 17: 10-19

In his book A Language Older than Words, author Derrick Jensen tells of two trips he has made that I believe shine a light on our scripture for today.  Our scripture is about being in the world but not of the world, being out and about in the culture of our society but not being overwhelmed and consumed by that culture.  One way to get a sense of at least part of our country’s culture is to drive across it and listen to the different radio stations.  Jensen did this, and during part of the drive, he listened to a talk show on disciplining children.
